What is EVSE?
Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.
The EVSE is the charging station. Some EV owners see the EVSE as a very fancy extension cord. But EVSE is more than just an extension cord. EVSE also exchange data to and from the EV.
Is EVSE the EV charger?
Not in all cases.
For Level I and Level II charging the charger is located in the EV. The charger in the EV converts Alternating Current (AC) to Direct Current (DC).
For Level III charging, also known as Fast Charging, the charger is external to the EV and supplies Direct Current (DC) to the EV battery. There is no need to convert from AC to DC.
